~ ELUL ~

The Hebrew letters of ELUL (Aleph, Lamed, Vav & Lamed) is an acronym for the phrase ani l’dodi v’dodi li, which means “I am my beloved and my beloved is mine.” (song of solomon) As we confess this to our loved one, so Adonai confesses this back to us.

Elul also marked the time when Moshe returned up Mt Sinai for the 2nd set of tablets, after he broke them due to the sin of the golden calf. Moshe returned 40 days later on Yom Kippur with the new tablets along with forgiveness for Israel - Israel saw the light and knew they where forgiven.

Yom Kippur is linked with sacrifice - in Hebrew it is "Korban" is an offering through which a person seeks to draw near to.

Isaiah 55:6 “Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near;

We can seek forgiveness anytime of the year, but how often do we do this, or how often do we delay or try justify how we feel. With Yom Kippur coming up and looking at events with Israel especially in the case of Moshe's 2nd accent for new tablets, it brings on an urgency to do some really deep soul searching and making right with your brother before you make right with God.

Mathew 6:12 - And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors"
Mathew 6:15 - But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

1 John 4:20 If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.
