The Eighth Day

For seven days you bring an offering made by fire to יהוה. On THE EIGHTH DAY there shall be a set-apart gathering for you, and you shall bring an offering made by fire to יהוה. It is a closing festival, you do no servile work.

Vayikra 23:36
שׁבעת ימים תקריבו אשׁה ליהוה ביום השׁמיני מקרא־קדשׁ יהיה לכם והקרבתם אשׁה ליהוה עצרת הוא כל־מלאכת עבדה לא תעשׂו׃

Reading:

  • Usually the last Torah portion V'zot Habrachah and the first line of Beresheet are read showing that Torah is never ending

  • Torah: V'Zot Habrachah Deut 33:1 - 34:12
                Genesis 1:1 - 2:3

  • Prophets: Joshua 1:1-18

  • Gospel: Mathew 17:1-9; Mark 9:2-10; Luke 9:28-36; Jude 3-4, 8-10

While the Assembly of the Eighth is often thought of simply as the final day of the Feast of Sukkot, it is actually a separate festival.  It is the22nd day of the seventh month. Lev 23:36,39, Num 29:35 and is a convocation / sabbath day. No servile work is to be done.

As we complete Sukkot - the 7th festival, which coincides with the 7th day of creation - the Shabbat a time of rest. 7 in Hebrew is also a representation of completion thereby being a shadow picture of the 1000 year reign with Messiah Yeshua.

The Eighth Day, is a time of renewal and speaks of a special assembly, that time after the 1000 year reign, and dwelling with our Father in Heaven. The number 8 in Hebrew represents Renewal.
